NETFLIX will switch off on more than a dozen top-brand TV models in weeks.
The company is ending support for a selection of popular televisions – meaning you’ll no longer be able to watch, even if you pay for a subscription.
Netflix will soon stop working on select Sony televisions[/caption]This shutdown affects Sony TVs in particular, specifically those made around 10 years ago.
“Dear valued Sony customer,” Sony began, in a statement.
“Starting July 24, 2024, the Netflix app will no longer be supported on some 2014 BRAVIA televisions (Affected Models).
“You can continue to use the Netflix app until July 23, 2024.”

Thankfully there is an alternative if you’re worried about losing Netflix.
Sony explains: “You can still enjoy Netflix on the Affected Models by using a supported streaming device.”
This means you’ll need to install a connected streaming device like an Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Roku TV Stick, or Google Chromecast.
NO-FLIX!
This isn’t the first time Netflix has been killed on Sony TVs.
Late last year, Netflix announced that dozens of TVs from 2012 and 2013 would lose support for the app.
They lost access to Netflix in February 2024.

If you have any of those TV models then you’ll already have lost access to Netflix.
But like with the more recent closure, you can still rely on plug-in streaming devices to regain access.
Streaming sticks override your TV’s own software, giving you access to a different set of apps and services.
And if you buy a more recent streaming stick then you’ll still be getting updates and support from Netflix for a long time.
So it’s an easy way to cheaply upgrade your TV without forking out for a brand new (and likely expensive) model.
