I’m using my friend’s porch as a bedroom – it’s tiny but I make it work with my kid, our beds have been trial & error

TRANSFORMING a porch into a bedroom isn’t easy – but one mom tried her best to make the cramped quarters as cozy as possible.

She knew that the only way she would find the perfect beds for her and her child to sleep on was through trial and error.

Shiba (@bmoniquej) was determined to figure out their sleeping arrangements because she was not getting a good night’s sleep.

After moving into her friend’s porch-turned-bedroom, she had to make the “tiny” space “work” for both her and her daughter.

She explained in her viral TikTok video that it took a lot of tries, and she still wasn’t set on her bed of choice.

The blow-up mattress idea she first came up with blew up in her face.

It was too close to the creepy crawlies that come out at night – and it was more annoying to take out and blow up every day than it was worth.

Purchasing a regular bed was also not an option because she was on a budget and didn’t know how long she would be staying in the space.

Sharing a bed could also potentially turn into a full-fledged flailing war between her and her daughter, who kicks in her sleep.

One space-saving solution she found was a $100 camping cot from Walmart that can be “lifted up” in the back.

If you’re looking to save even more, Amazon sells a similar cot for about $50, but be warned that it’s not easy to “adjust.”

The online retail giant also has another affordable three-in-one option.

Just don’t be fooled by the $80 chaise lounge and lawn chair combo that does “not lay flat.”

If you want a comfortable night’s rest without your back “arching in,” your safest bet might be to stay away.

However, if you’re simply looking for another piece of outdoor lawn furniture – or can still sleep comfortably on your back rather than on your side, it might be just right for you.

The $88 Mophoto three-in-one chair from Amazon is described as being an outdoor padded lounge chair, patio folding lawn recliner chair, and outdoor reclining chair.

The versatile chair features an ergonomic design and adjustable padded cushion, as well as a removable headrest.

It is also said to support many body shapes and sizes.

The item has thousands of reviews.

“I bought this for my living room as I’m having a complete knee surgery. Oh my goodness, this chair is very comfortable and as easy to set up as one, two, three,” wrote one fan.

“I recommend this to everyone. The price was right on this chair. It’s made very good. Use indoors or out. Mine is indoors,” she added.

A trundle bed is another option, but it will be much costlier.

Many commenters shared their own space-saving beds for Shiba to try.

Budget interior design tips

Interior designer Judy Hoang shared her furniture tips with The U.S. Sun.

  • Thrift furniture and paint it to match your decor.
  • Test if an item is fit for its purpose before thrifting.
  • Shop at Target or HomeGoods for rugs, lamps, desks, and pillows.
  • Invest in classic timeless pieces.
  • Set up smart home lighting to save money.

“Get a day bed with the pull-out bed – two beds in one,” said one follower.

Try the bunk beds – where the bottom bunk is a sofa also!” said another watcher.

“A full-size futon – they are like $100 to $500 now and they can fold into a little couch, be moved easily, and turn into a bed!” shared one viewer.

“I had gotten a really nice wooden full-size with twin trundle from Amazon for less than $300,” said another watcher.

“I just had to get a twin for the smaller trundle and that was under $80 too,” she added.

“Each bed against the window so you get that middle-floor space,” a viewer chimed in.
