AMAZON Prime series My Lady Jane has been axed after just one series and after six weeks since it first aired on the streaming platform.

The raunchy period drama depicting Lady Jane Grey and her husband Lord Guildford Dudley, is based loosely on the ill fated nine day queen from the Tudor era.

Yet the new series was brought bang up to date with a modern retelling as well as a supernatural twist, as well as a stellar soundtrack.

The Amazon series starring Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel is based on a series of Young Adult novels by Gemma Burgess.

The steamy on-screen chemistry between Jane and Guildford is what had viewers hooked, as their arranged marriage swiftly turned to love and romance.

Joining Bader and Bluemel was a star studded cast, including Rob Brydon, Dominic Cooper and Jim Broadbent.

The series aired on June 27, and initially reviewed positive reviews as well as winning over fans worldwide.

After it first aired,  The Guardian described it as ‘joyously bananas’ whilst Forbes called it ‘one of the best shows of 2024.’

Yet even the celebrity cast wasn’t enough to save the history series, with Amazon Prime confirming there won’t be a follow up to the tale of Jane and Guildford.

Fans have not taken the news well that My Lady Jane will not be returning for series two.

Writing on Twitter, one fan posted: “I’m so tired of getting attached to tv shows only for them to get cancelled mid story. rip my lady jane I hate you @PrimeVideo.”

Another shared: “amazon cancelling my lady jane?? they just hate fun, hate whimsy, hate historical romance w an emphasis on the drama, hate enemies to lovers where one of them is a literal horse, hate silliness!!!!”

“I cant stop thinking about my lady jane being cancelled, this is my worst fear come true ..,” said a third.

Another shared: “RIP My Lady Jane, you’ll forever be in my heart.”

Another viewer raged: “THEY CANCELLED MY LADY JANE???? Immediately fuming because what do you mean you’re not renewing camp romance perfection??”

My Lady Jane is available to watch on Amazon Prime video.
