AMAZON Prime show The Boys has broken streaming records despite getting the axe.
The creator of the superhero show recently revealed that the next series would be the last.
The Boys has achieved incredible viewing figures over the past week[/caption] Fans watched over a billion minutes of the show[/caption]But if viewing figures are anything to go by, audiences are crying out for more.
The fan-favorite series obliterated expectations, raking in a jaw-dropping 1.3 billion minutes viewed from July 15 to 21.
This also meant it became the first time The Boys has seized the crown as the No. 1 streaming title of the week.
It is also the eighth time The Boys has hit the one billion views milestone.
The show has achieved this more times than any other Prime show in history.
Despite hitting all of these milestones, creator Eric Kripke has made it clear that the fifth series will close the chapter on the superhero story.
He previously told fans: “The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!
“Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought.
“Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in TWO DAYS, cause the end has begun!”
At the time fans took to social media to express their dismay that the show is coming to a close.
One person shared: “I will miss this crazy and bonkers show – I love the characters you created for us. I’m excited for season 4 and 5 and will try to just focus on enjoying them.”
Another pleaded: “Give us 10 episodes in Season 5 rather than 8 then please.”
The Boys is based on a comic book series with the same name and it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they take on superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.
So far, some of its shocking scenes have included a superhero orgy, one character coming close to death after being strangled by an enormous penis, and another having their eyes and brain lasered out.
