AMAZON Prime Day 2024 is underway, with the first flurry of deals now released for bargain hunters to take advantage of over day one of the event.
Over the next 48-hours prime members will be able to score big savings on thousands of items, ranging from beauty buys to home and garden upgrades.
Prime Day deals
Provided you’re signed up to Amazon’s perks-filled subscription you can make the most of the event, which will end at 11:59 pm on 17 July.
So far we have seen some amazing discounts on Amazon devices.
We have also spied some impressive deals on coveted appliances like the Shark Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner, now £159.99 (was £279.99) and the Philips L’OR Barista Sublime Capsule Coffee Machine, now £49.99 (was £109.99).
How do I get access to Amazon Prime Day deals?
If you want to shop the Amazon Prime Day deals, you'll need to sign up to become an Amazon Prime member.
The Prime membership comes with lots of additional perks, including free next-day delivery (and even same-day delivery in certain postcodes).
You can also get access to Prime Video, Amazon’s ever-growing streaming service of movies and TV shows.
Amazon also offers members early access to its 24-hour ‘lightning’ deals during Prime Day. (something that’s ramped up dramatically during Prime Day itself).
Prime membership costs £8.99 a month, or £95 a year for a 12-month plan, but if you haven’t tried it before you can sign up for a 30-day free trial.
That’s more than enough time to join for free to shop some exclusive bargains over Prime Day and cancel before you have to start paying a monthly fee.
When does Prime Day 2024 start?
Prime Day officially kicked off at midnight today (16 July), with deals set to last for the next 48 hours.
However, Amazon teased shoppers with some early exclusive deals that dropped last week.
These deals primarily focused on Amazon’s branded devices and one of the hottest early deals was on the ‘seriously impressive’ 55-inch Fire TV, which is slashed from £549.99 to £329.99.
How long will Prime Day 2024 last?
Prime Day always runs for 48 hours and this is the absolute standard for Amazon’s Prime Day events.
Within that time you can expect deals to come and go, with ‘lightning’ offers appearing while stock lasts.
We recommend keeping a very close eye on the Prime Day deals hub on Amazon’s website.

When is Prime Day 2024?
The Prime Day event for this year is taking place from 16-17 July.
Prime Day was originally launched in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th birthday but has since evolved into an annual mega sale that is similar to Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
While the annual sale event has traditionally taken place every July, in 2022 Amazon also hosted two Prime Day events in July and October, giving bargain-hunters even more opportunities to shop for discounts as a Prime member.
Here’s a run-down of the dates that Amazon Prime Day has taken place since its inception in 2015:
- 2015: 15 July
- 2016: 12 July
- 2017: 11 July
- 2018: 16-17 July
- 2019: 15-16 July
- 2020: 13-14 October
- 2021: 21-22 June
- 2022: 12-13 July
- 2022: 11-12 October
- 2023: 11-12 July
- 2023: 10-11 October
- 2024: 16-17 July
Amazon Prime vs Black Friday: which is best?
Amazon Prime Day is one of the busiest sales events of the summer.
But in terms of length, scale and discount quality, Black Friday is the reigning deals period of the year.
You’ll find terrific price drops during both sales – and it’s not impossible that some Prime Day offers may well match those you find during Black Friday in November.
But remember, the Prime Day deals are only available to people who have signed up to Amazon Prime, while Black Friday deals are available to all.
